根拠ない想像ですが、
make it sure that〜 という仮目的語+that節の形の
itが省略されたものかなと思います。

その事例の半数において、研究者は、Jacksonの誕生日がその伝記を読んでいた生徒の誕生日と一致することを確認した。
みたいなかんじです。
