3. Answer the following questions. 1 What is the difference between UNIX and Linux? 2 3 4 Choose one of the words in italics in the text. What is the definition of the word you have chosen? What are the three levels of a Linux system? What are the two main functions of the kernel? [Reading Text] UNIX was initially developed by researchers at Bell Labs in the 1970s. Today, UNIX and its variants are widely used mainly on servers. By far, the most well- known UNIX-like operating system is Linux. Linux is available in different distributions which include the Linux kernel and different collections of software. These distributions have various user interfaces, many experienced users preferring the command-line interface, or shell. Linux distributions include a range of software including text editors. memory. While the mechanics of Linux and other Unix operating systems are complicated, the components of a Linux system can be grouped into three levels. The lowest level is the hardware, such as Central Processing Unit (CPU) and The next level is the kernel. It enables communication between hardware and software, by providing instructions to the CPU and other hardware. The programs that are running on the system, or processes, make up the top level known as the user space. Processes in user space generally only have access to a restricted amount of memory and operations, this is called user mode. The kernel runs in kernel mode which allows it unrestricted access to hardware resources. The kernel provides functions such as process management and memory management. A computer only has limited Random Access Memory (RAM) and processor cores. Process management allows the system to run multiple programs (processes) at the same time even if the CPU can only execute only a few processes at a time. Memory management allows applications to share the system's memory while avoiding potential issues such as memory leak. Included with the kernel are device drivers that provide an interface for applications to communicate with hardware, such as hard drives. System calls allow user processes to access features that are executed at kernel mode, for example creating new processes.

from injuries due to falls. Poor vision accounts for 18 percent of broken hips. So, why don't more people get regular eye exams? For one thing, eye exams in the United States are not covered by public nor by many private health insurers. Even the new U.S. health care law has yet to include basic eye exams and rehabilitation services for vision loss, though advocates are pushing hard for this coverage in regulations now being prepared. But even those who have insurance or can pay out of pocket are often reluctant to go for regular eye exams. Fear and depression are common impediments for those at risk of vision loss. Patients worry that they could become totally blind and unable to go partying, read or drive a car, he said. [A] many people fail to realize that early detection can result[] vision-preserving therapy. Those at risk include people with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or cardiovascular disease, as well as anyone who has been a smoker or has a family history of an eye disorder like macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy or glaucoma. The eyes are truly a window to the body, and a proper eye exam can often alert physicians to a serious underlying disease like diabetes, multiple sclerosis or even a brain tumor. Mr. Lovett recommends that all children have "a professional eye exam" before they start elementary school. "Being able to read the eye chart, which tests distance vision, is not enough, since most learning dhe is whild de adequate

(PO2-1) VI. Quantitative Comparisons In this type of question you are given two quantities, with information regarding either one or both. You are asked to decide which, if either, is the greater quantity. Actually, these questions apply various principles of mathematics already covered in this review. In fact these questions involve less reading and less computation than the other types of multiple-choice questions. The directions state that the letters used represent real numbers, that diagrams are not necessarily drawn to scale, and that facts pertaining to one or both quantities are centered above both Some Important Facts and Strategies columns.

1.2 約数と倍数 (1)a|bかつ6|a → a=D±6. (2) a|bかつ6|c → a|c. (3) a|b → ac| bc. a|bと表す。 [証明明(1) e== +1 とおくと,e.ea=D aであるから, eと eaは *すべてのiに対して a; + 0であるとき, a1,, an の aの約数である。 LCM(a1, .… , an)=0. 1= {ac| = |a||e| >_a|>1.
